Rushing Attilio lived on a four-acre property in Lamont, Florida until she was four. To call it a farm would be generous, but they maintained a garden and a small number of chickens. Her family relocated to Houston, Texas in 1998 and lived there until 2013. Her current studio is in Lubbock, Texas where she is working to complete her MFA in sculpture. Since she has spent most of her life so far in the city, Lubbock’s utterly flat landscape, dotted with towering white wind turbines, allows her to see further out than she could ever have in Houston. The land is particularly spectacular at night, when all of the turbines glow red in eerie unison.
